The Senate on Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will force the release of investigative files associated with the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a near-unanimous vote in the lower house and a reversal by the president and his Republican allies. The White House gave in after an extended period of trying to delay the bipartisan effort involving a case that has plagued the president since his return to the White House.
Expedited Approval in Both Chambers
Senators proceeded by consensus, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a individual voting process, expediting the process. Just before, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a massive majority.
“The American people have endured sufficient delay. Those affected have suffered long enough,” the Senate Democratic leader stated in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before requesting the Senate to approve it without opposition. “Uncover the facts. Ensure full disclosure.”
Presidential Signature
The measure next heads to the president for his approval. He stated on Monday that he would endorse the legislation.
Though Trump has for an extended period downplayed the outcry over the official management of the Epstein case as a “Democrat hoax”, he voiced approval for the measure over the past few days, and stated he would give his assent if it is presented to him.
Reaction
Democrats, along with victims and their representatives who were present in a House gallery, applauded after the bill was enacted. Lone dissent came from Clay Higgins, who stated he feared the measure would reveal identifying details of individuals involved, persons of interest and others implicated in the investigation.
